Carrie writes,  January 02, 2010

OK, so i'm attempting to start this on monday...but I'm very confused..

I understand it's much like the Atkins diet... but on that no veggies are allowed. Can i eat veggies? if so what kind. I am a huge carb girl but i can live without it but if I'm going to do this I wanna do it right.

If I can eat veggies, do the all have to be fresh or can i get canned peas, etc?

thanks,

carrie

Hi Carrie,

I recently got his book, and this is directly from the book. You can
have lettuce,Kale, Chard, Spinach, Cabbage, Squash, Tomatoes, Cauliflower,Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, Carrots, Celery, Endive, Radishes,
Bell Peppers, Green beans, Peas, all kinds. That's only a partial list of
veggies allowed. Corn, Cucumbers, most all kinds are allowed. They can
be canned, don't have to be fresh. Hope that helps you.

Carrie, I have found that this is a much simpler and more healthy way to eat than Atkins.  I don't get those crazy cravings very often on this plan.  It's just as simple as learning to read the label on every item you pick up at the store and putting back anything that has any type of flour or sugar on the label.  Fresh fruits and veggies, canned, frozen; it doesn't matter as long as they don't contain sugar or flour.  You will have to learn all the tricky names used for different types of sugars, but this comes quickly.  Good luck to you!  I feel just great when I eat this way.  Get Dr. Gott's book.  It's cheap and really helps you get started.

I paid $3.25 for his book on Amazon, and it looks like a brand new
copy. Very informative book!

I KNOW ON ATKINS NO FRUIT AND LIMITED VEGGIES ARE ALLOWED, BUT ON THIS IT'S ACCEPTABLE...BUT FRUIT IS SUGAR. IS IT OK BUCAUSE IT'S A NATURAL SUGAR?

ALSO, PASTA...IS IT WHOLE WHEAT THAT'S ALLOWED? AND IF SO

WHAT KIND OF SAUCE DO YOU PUT ON IT?

THANKS AGAIN,

CARRIE

We eat lots of veggies, fresh, frozen, canned, etc.  Fruit is limited until you get to maintenence....actually everything has it's amount given even after maintenence.  Sugar and flour free are the common denominator here.  I personally am not in favor of the Adkins diet for the main reason that it limits the whole live food....veggies and fruit....in favor of the heavy dead food....meats, fats.....I've done it and felt awful.  The more live foods I eat, the better my body responds with the way I feel, look, function, think....that's the stuff God made for you : )
